Religious Community Plans Thanksgiving 2004

The members of St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown Congregational Church, Congregation Adath Israel, and The Knights of Columbus are joining forces again to bring some joy to individuals and families in the greater Newtown-Danbury area during the upcoming holidays.

As in previous years, a community dinner is being organized for all those members of the community who want to share the holiday spirit with others, sometimes less fortunate.

As part of the event, there will be a hot dinner served at the parish hall at St Rose of Lima Church on Thursday, November 25, starting at noon. Meals will also be distributed to the homes of those people who are unable to get to the parish hall because of illness or other reasons. In addition, meals will be distributed to shelters and soup kitchens in Danbury, Bridgeport and Derby.

This will be the fourth time these organizations collaborate in sharing their blessings with the less fortunate members of the surrounding communities. During previous events, more than 1,000 meals have been served and delivered throughout the surrounding communities. This kind of success has been possible thanks to the generous help of volunteers who have donated their personal time and effort, as well as making financial contributions.

The menu will include boneless chicken breasts, mashed potatoes, applesauce, mixed vegetables, gravy, rolls, cake, and fruit juice.

Anyone willing to participate either helping or as a guest should contact Charlie Hettenbach at 426-0732.

Neighbors are encouraged to contact Mr Hettenbach if they know of any friends who would like to have one or more hot meals delivered to their home on Thanksgiving Day. Tax-deductible donations can be made to “At Our Gate” and sent to the attention of John Moulder at St Rose Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470.
