Virginia Zic To Lecture

On Recent Works

WOODBURY — Flanders Nature Center will present its next “Art at the Nature Center” program on Friday, November 12, beginning at 7:30 pm.

Using ideas based on nature, the artist Virginia Zic will present “Earth Fragments: Nature, Design and Color.” She will discuss a recent series of paintings of rock outcroppings and recesses within the earth’s surface.

With her latest works, Ms Zic explores familiar crevasses and formations of the earth’s outer crust and transforms them into enigmatic shelters suggesting life and seclusion. Color, design and dramatic light play a key role in enticing the viewer to enter and explore these mysterious places. She will show slides and also some original paintings.

Virginia Zic, a resident of Newtown, is professor emerita at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. She holds an MFA from Syracuse University, and an MA from Villa Schifanoia Graduate School of Fine Art in Florence, Italy.

She has recently exhibited at Bradley International Airport, Ridgefield Guild of Artists, Jeffrey Weiss Gallery in Black Rock, UConn Gallery at Stamford, and the Waveny Gallery in New Canaan. She is a longtime board member of the Connecticut chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art.

The public is invited to the November 12 program. Flanders Nature Center is on Flanders Road, at the corner of Church Hill Road. A donation of $5 is requested.
