Woman’s Club Meets At Ethan Allen

Members of the Newtown Woman’s Club GFWC, Inc held their monthly luncheon meeting recently at the Ethan Allen Inn in Danbury.

Ribbons were placed at each place setting by Membership Chairperson Delores Judge, encouraging tablemates to tell something about themselves in a “get to know you better” session.

Calla Sellner gave a slide show presentation of her recent trip to South Africa. She explained that AIDS and crime are rampant there. There were also many slides that pointed out the diversity of cultures in South Africa.

Ms Sellner also showed pictures from her trip in Kruger National Park. Her group was accompanied by armed guards because the animals in the park roam free. Woman’s Club members said it was lovely to see the wild animals in their own habitat and amazing to look for them as they blended in to that habitat very well. One particularly breathtaking shot was of The Cape of Good Hope.

The Woman’s Club meets each month, September through May, on the third Thursday for a luncheon meeting at various area restaurants. The purpose of the organization is to promote friendship among members, to provide opportunities for organized interest, and to participate in social, cultural, philanthropic, intellectual, and civic affairs of the Newtown community.
