Sandy Hook School Students Visited By

‘The Lemonade War’ Author

After a month of having the whole school at Sandy Hook School read The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies, the school was visited by the author and held a night to celebrate the book and the school’s experience on Thursday, October 28.

Ms Davies spoke to students during multiple presentation during the school day on Thursday, and later that night parents and students returned to the school to attend a culmination ceremony, complete with activities, like making hats decorated with paper lemons. Volunteers also sold baked goods and more at the event.

One School One Read is a PTA-sponsored program that has each student in the school read the same book within the same one-month span. Hawley Elementary School also kicked off its One School One Read program this week. (See the related story in this week’s Bee.)

Ms Davies read sections of her book to students and explained all books have a build up to a climax right before the ending.

Last year’s One School One Read book at Sandy Hook School was A Bear Named Trouble by Marion Dane Bauer.
