Library To Present Tellabration

The C.H. Booth Library will host a Tellabration for adults and families with school-age children, Friday, November 20, at 7:30 pm. Storytellers Martha Bishop, Keith Hughes, M.J. Moriarty, and Laconia Therrio, and student tellers, will share stories and songs to delight kids and parents alike.

Tellabration is a mammoth storytelling event made up of dozens of storytelling happenings all over the world. Its purpose is to introduce adults and children to the pleasures of the oral art of storytelling. It is one of the programs offered by The Connecticut Storytelling Center, based at Connecticut College in New London.

Martha Bishop maintains that all teachers are storytellers and she has been teaching and telling stories since she was a child. She has been active with the Connecticut Storytelling Center since 2004, and participates in local community theater productions.

Keith Hughes’s performances feature a blend of storytelling and circus arts, magic and merriment, designed to delight audiences of all ages. He is listed on the Connecticut Commission on the Arts Roster of Performing Artists. He is also a teaching artist for the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts.

MJ Moriarty tells tales of wishes, dreams, and adventures. She is on the Connecticut Commission on the Arts Performing Artists Roster and is a presenting/teaching artist for the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts’ “Partners in the Arts” educational programs.

Laconia Therrio is a therapist and former minister, as well as a professional storyteller. His stories include those from around the world and personal stories of growing up as an African American in the Southern United States.
