Antoinette Vernuccio

Antoinette Vernuccio, 93, a longtime resident of Bridgeport and 15-year resident of Sandy Hook, died November 5 at Masonicare at Newtown. She was the wife of the late Sam Vernuccio for 59 years. She was born August 28, 1921, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Gentile of Siracusa, Sicily, and the late Marietta Destacio Turro of Fairfield.

She leaves two daughters, Dianna Villafana, and her companion Bill Bentham, of Sandy Hook and Marie Saksa, and her husband Bob, of Shelton; and four grandchildren, Darrin Villafana, and his wife Suzzette, Tina Saksa, Robert Saksa, and his wife Kari, and JoAnne Saksa. Six great-grandchildren, Melissa, Dillon, Veronica, Nicole, Savannah, and Gia, also survive Mrs Vernuccio. Her brother, Eugene Gentile, predeceased her.

Mrs Vernuccio worked at the Trim Fashion Dress Shop in Fairfield for many years. She was a member of the Merry Makers of Bridgeport, a song and dance troop performing at nursing homes and senior centers. She loved music, singing, dancing, gardening, crafts, walking, and she was especially gifted at crochet. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial Mass will take place Saturday, November 15, at noon, at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Almost Home Adult Daycare, 52 Federal Road, Danbury CT 06810, where Mrs Vernuccio spent five fun-filled years, making many friends.
