NHS Marching Band & Guard Named State Champions

With its recorded performance from October 24, the Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard was recognized as the V-USBands Division 2 Connecticut state champions with a score of 92 out of 100) and earned first place overall in Division 2 across a field of 16 marching bands representing six states from as far away as Wisconsin and Nebraska.

The NHS Marching Band & Guard then performed its show, “The Incredible Nighthawks,” at the NHS Blue & Gold Stadium as part of the V-USBands National Championships, on October 31.

Results of the national championships will be announced this coming weekend.

As it nears the end of the fall 2020 season, Newtown High School Band Parent Corporation (NHSBPC) President Laura Taylor thanked NHS administration, Band Director Kurt Eckhardt, Assistant Band Director Chris Carley, and the rest of the dedicated staff for all of their efforts in making the season possible.

The ensemble’s final performance is this weekend for the V-USBands Grand Finale, for an open competition with over 60 marching band and guard teams across all divisions.
