Tracking Eastern European Ancestors, November 11 With Genealogy Club, Pam Vestal
Genealogy Club of Newtown will host a virtual meeting on Wednesday, November 11, continuing the celebration of its 25th anniversary year. The meeting will be from 7 to 8:30 pm. Those planning to join are asked to enter the Zoom space by 6:45.
Speaker Pam Vestal (pictured) will lecture on “Tracking Down Your Eastern European Ancestors.”
Vestal is a professional genealogist who turned to her longtime love of genealogy after a 20-year writing career. Her articles have appeared in National Genealogical Society Magazine and Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly, and her lectures take her from coast to coast.
All of her known ancestors were Eastern European. She specializes in conducting genealogical research and then turning that information into illustrated stories that even non-genealogists can enjoy. She will join the meeting remotely from Oregon.
Research in Eastern Europe can be difficult, but in spite of the many wars, boundary changes, and political and natural catastrophes, an astonishing number of records exist for Eastern European ancestors. Vestal will help attendees explore strategies for locating places of origin; uncovering original names; finding, requesting, and understanding the records; and coping with language challenges.
Genealogy Club of Newtown meets the second Wednesday of each month, September through June. Annual dues are $30 for an individual and $40 for a family (two or more). Dues help pay for speakers. Meetings are co-sponsored by the library, and are open to all who are interested in family history.
Everyone on the club’s mailing list should receive its newsletter, which will have a link for the meeting.
Guests may request a link by sending an e-mail with name, address, e-mail address, and phone number to the club secretary at genclubnewtownct.secretary@gmail.com by November 9. A link will be sent November 10 or 11. Contact the club secretary with any questions.
