Holiday Wine Extravaganza

Benefits WCSU Scholarships

The Caraluzzi family, owner of Nutmeg Discount Liquors and Caraluzzis’ Markets in Bethel and Georgetown, is holding its fifth annual Holiday Wine Tasting Extravaganza Sunday, November 16, from 4 to 7pm at Western Connecticut State University.

Wine connoisseurs will enjoy the largest tasting of its kind with distributors offering wines from around the world at the event. The Caraluzzis first organized the event to increase funds through a permanent endowment created from the family’s $100,000 donation to WCSU in 1999. The gourmet wine festival has raised more than $50,000 in years past.

Nutmeg Discount Liquors of Bethel was named among Food and Wine magazine’s Top 100 Wine Shops this year. Nearly 1,000 area residents have supported prior wine tastings, partaking in an abundance of fine wines, food, and jazz.

This years food donors are Emerald City Café of Bethel, Marge Foster Catering of New Canaan, Gracie’s Mansion of Danbury, and Spinelli’s of Norwalk. Chef Warren Hardman, a regular guest on Cablevision’s Dave and Becky Show will return with the promise of specially made delicacies for the event.

Bethel Food Market’s Mr Sushi will also be on hand to prepare intricate Japanese frills.

Tickets are $50. RSVPs are required by November 10. Due to the growing popularity of the event, reservations are limited to the first 250 guests.
