Leona Y. Hanlon

Leona Y. Hanlon, 78, a resident of Sandy Hook the past 57 years, died peacefully at home November 5 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Joseph Hanlon for 51 years until his death in 1997.

Mrs Hanlon was born in Woodbury on November 11, 1924, a daughter of the late Percy and Maude (Hart) Young. She was a graduate of Woodbury High School.

She was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sandy Hook and was formerly an active member of VFW Post #308 Ladies Auxiliary. Leona was a member of the Newtown United Methodist Church and was active there until disability prevented her from continuing.

She is survived by her five children; one son, Thomas Hanlon and his fiancée, Mary Farley, of Newtown; four daughters, Alice Parlangeli of Middlebury, Judy Korol and her husband, Peter, Joan Bianchi and her husband, Tom, and Barbara Bloom and her husband, Dennis, all of Newtown. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Angela, and Michael Parlangeli of Middlebury and William Bloom of Newtown; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 8, at 1 pm, in the Newtown United Methodist Church, Sandy Hook. Burial will be in Zoar Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

 Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Friday, November 7, between 6 and 8 pm.
