Pastel Demo At Meeting House, November 12

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host a pastel demonstration by Clayton Buchanan on Wednesday, November 12, at 7:30 pm. Mr Buchanan will paint from a model.

The program is open to the public and will be in the lower meeting room at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole) in Newtown.

Clayton Buchanan’s paintings have been exhibited in galleries throughout the Northeast and South including Portraits Incorporated, New York City; The Guild of Boston Artists; River Winds Gallery, Beacon, N.Y.; and James Cox Gallery, Woodstock, N.Y., among many others.

Current memberships include The Guild of Boston Artists, Connecticut Pastel Society, Kent Art Association and The Orange County Art Federation (Orange County, N.Y.).

Mr Buchanan has completed numerous corporate commissions including work commemorating the 100th anniversary of Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck, N.Y. Corporate portraits include Justice of Mississippi Juvenile Court, Jackson, Miss.; President of Florida State University, Tallahassee, Fla.; President of Midland National Bank, Midland, Tex. He has also done private portrait commissions throughout the Northeast and South.

Mr Buchanan studied Impressionist painting with Henry Hensche, Cape School of Art, Provincetown, MA; figure/portrait painting with William Draper, Art Students League, New York City; and painting/graphic arts at The Memphis Art Academy, Memphis, TN.  He worked in the graphic arts industry for 30 years and now paints full time. He resides and has his studio in Newburgh, N.Y.

Mr Buchanan is an experienced teacher, demonstrator and workshop presenter. There is no admission fee for his program, and reservations are not needed. For additional information, however, interested persons can call Donna Favreau, SCAN’s publicity chair, at 798-0560.
