‘The Circus In Sculpture’ On View At The Barnum Museum

BRIDGEPORT — The Barnum Museum is hosting “The Circus in Sculpture: An Exhibition in Collaboration with Music and Arts Center for Humanities and The Steffi Friedman Sculpture Group” through Sunday, November 19.

The Music and Arts Center for Humanities offers art lessons in various mediums. For “The Circus in Sculpture,” pieces were created by students age 13 to 18 in the MACH programs in Bridgeport and Stratford. Each piece explores the whimsical imagery of the circus.

The young artists have captured the magical spirit and wondrous pageantry of the circus, a centuries-old American institution. Through demission and color, each piece represents the artists’ unique interpretation of memory and personal expression.

Along with the student artistic pieces, select sculptures from the Steffi Friedman Sculpture Group in Westport will also be on display. Steffi Friedman is a Pratt Institute and Columbia University educated sculptor. She works with various mediums, but often focuses on sculpting motion and emotional pieces.

Having owned and taught at a private art studio for 25 years, Ms. Friedman also volunteers to share her artistic talents by teaching for MACH.  She is the recipient of the 2008 Pat Hart Service Award from MACH.

According to Dr Donald Rainone, the Executive Director/CEO of MACH, “Rarely do you find a volunteer with the artistic talent and teaching experience Ms. Freidman possesses. She has displayed an unmatched willingness to share her valuable time and to conduct herself in the most caring and professional fashion as she labors to develop the talents of our young artists. She is a treasure and we are blessed to have her as one of our 3-D instructors.”

The Barnum Museum is at 820 Main Street. Call 203-331-1104 or visit Barnum-Museum.org for additional information.
