DUI Charge

Police said that on the evening of October 27, they responded to a report that a motorist was driving erratically on Berkshire Road, so they went to the area to seek the driver.

Police said they located the driver on Toddy Hill Road and stopped him to investigate. Police said they then charged motorist Timothy McColgan, 47, of Bloomington, N.Y., with driving under the influence.

McColgan was released on $100 bail for a November 12 court appearance.

Arrested

Newtown police report that at about 12:25 am on November 3, state police brought a 17-year-old boy to the Newtown police station after encountering the youth and learning that Newtown police held an arrest warrant on him.

Newtown police charged the boy with evading responsibility in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred in town last summer.

After processing, police released the boy on $50 bail for a court appearance. Police did not disclose the boy’s identity because he is under age 18.

Berkshire Crash

Police report that motorist Kenneth Cobb, 23, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2005 Kia Spectra sedan eastward on Berkshire Road, near Jordan Hill Road, about 12:24 am November 1, lost control of the vehicle after which its rear end spun out and struck some rockface along the right road shoulder.

That impact pushed the Kia across the road and its front end then struck some rockface along the left road shoulder, police said. Cobb was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Secondary Accident

Police report a secondary motor vehicle accident in the area where an initial accident had occurred about 10:25 am on October 31.

Police report that Norman Francoeur, 49, of Ansonia, who was driving a US Postal Service mail delivery truck, was traveling eastward on Pilgrim Lane and then stopped at its intersection with Toddy Hill Road with the intention of turning right onto Toddy Hill Road.

Francoeur was waiting at the intersection for a police officer to signal to him to make the right turn, police said.

At that time, motorist Lora Schultz, 62, of Katonah, N.Y., who was driving a 2013 BMW auto southward on Toddy Hill Road, stopped to wait for the police officer’s signal to proceed, police said.

The officer then signaled for the mail truck to proceed and for the BMW remain in place, but both vehicles started to move and collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Schultz for failure to obey a police officer’s signal.

Two Charges

Police report that at about 1:03 am on November 4, they stopped motorist Tanisha Stewart, 30, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., near 71 Berkshire Road to investigate, after which they charged Stewart with speeding and with driving under suspension. Stewart was released on a written promise to appear in court to answer the charges.

Highway Crash

State police report that motorist Nadia Traian, 34, of 33 Cricket Trail, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Forester SUV on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp at about 8:25 am on November 1, lost control of the SUV.

The Subaru spun off the ramp’s left shoulder and struck some flex-beam metal guardrailing, state police said. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Interstate Crash

State police report that motorist Claire Theune, 66, of 102 Haley Lane was driving a 2006 Mercury Mariner SUV in the center lane of three lanes on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 11, about 10:52 am on November 1, when trucker Jerry Radcliff, 71, of Newark, Ohio, who was driving a 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer truck in the right lane, veered into the center lane and sideswiped the Mercury.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Volvo Vs Deer

Police report that motorist Kimberly Ebert, 57, of 23 Whitewood Road was driving a 2013 Volvo XC-60 SUV eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Hawleyville Road, at about 4:15 pm on November 4, when a deer entered the roadway, resulting in a collision. Ebert was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Three Violations

Police report that at about 9:47 pm on November 5, they stopped motorist Clark Austin, 38, of Danbury to investigate near the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Settlers Lane.

Police said they charged Austin with traveling too fast, driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered vehicle. Police released Austin on $100 bail for a November 19 court appearance.

Mt Pleasant Road

At about 5:30 pm on November 5, as motorist John Dailey, 54, of Southbury was traveling eastward on Mt Pleasant Road and approaching its intersection with Reservoir Road, a deer entered the roadway, resulting in a collision, police report. Dailey was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

School Bus

At about 6:30 pm on November 4, Elisabeth Haynes, 52, of Norwalk, who was driving a 2010 International school bus with no passengers at the Newtown High School parking lot, was attempting to turn the bus around, but it struck a lightpost, police said. The bus is owned by First Student, Inc, of Norwalk.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Dodgingtown Crash

Police report that at about 8:15 pm on October 31, motorist Alec Berry, 16, of Monroe was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck westward on Route 302, in the area where it intersects with Hattertown Road. While negotiating a sweeping right curve in the road, the truck skidded to the left, crossed over the eastbound lane and then struck a traffic sign along the eastbound road shoulder, police said.

Berry was not injured. Police said they issued Berry a written warning for making a restricted turn.

NHS Mishap

At about 5:10 pm on October 30, as motorist Grace Clark, 17, of 40 Rock Ridge Road, who was driving a 1998 Buick LeSabre sedan, was attempting to enter a parking space at the Newtown High School parking lot, the Buick struck a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse SUV, which was driven by Alessandra Reis, 42, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., police said.

The Buick also struck a parked 2004 Chevrolet Suburban SUV, police said. There were no injuries, Police took no enforcement.
