Over the course of the school day on October 18, Hawley Elementary School students and community members walked around a field on the property to raise funds for the PTA to support playground equipment and celebrations for the building’s centennial year.

And over the next week, the fundraising continued. According to PTA President Kristen Bonacci following the fundraiser, the effort raised $17,770. Bonacci said in an e-mail that overall the event was “awesome.”

To keep the Walk-A-Thon continuing throughout the day on October 18, classes individually took turns walking the field. PTA members oversaw the course, and ice cream and snacks were offered after students completed walking laps around the field.
