Beating The Holiday Blues

WESTPORT — To prepare for the emotional pressures of the holiday season, the Hall-Brooke Behavioral Health Services at 47 Long Lots Road will sponsor a program, “Beating the Blues,” by Jonathan Hartland, MD, at 7 pm on Wednesday, November 16.

The event is free and will be held in the community room of Hall-Brooke, a wholly owned subsidiary of St Vincent’s Health Services, and is affiliated with the department of psychiatry of Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr Hartland serves as unit chief of outpatient services at The Center at Bridgeport.

“Life is full of stress-inducing events,” Dr Hartland said, “so it is important to react to these in ways supportive of good mental health. Maintaining mental health is as important as maintaining physical health.”

Most people experience occasional periods of “feeling down,” or “having the blues,” and do not require treatment for depression, he said, “but good mental health practices are recommended for everyone.”
