John Charney

John Charney, 90, beloved husband of Anna Dolny Charney, a lifelong resident of Monroe, died November 5 in his home.

In addition to his devoted wife of 60 years, fond memories will be cherished by his brother, Andrew Charney, and his wife, Doris, of Newtown; his sister, Irene Lane of Nokomis, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Anna Gono and Margaret Kurimsky; and one brother, Michael Charney.

The son of Michael and Veronica Lesko Charney, Mr Charney served his country in the US Army during World War II.

He received several honors including medals for Good Conduct, American Defense Service, Asiatic Pacific Theater, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart.

After the war, Mr Charney returned to farming in Monroe until 1955, when along with his brother,  he established the Charney Brothers Excavating Company, retiring in 1981.

Funeral services were held on November 10 in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, with Reverend Linda Kraft officiating. Burial followed in Lakeview Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home of Fairfield Center.
