It was a perfect Halloween afternoon and two very good baseball teams battled for the championship.
A solid pitching effort (six Cardinals took to the hill to share in the win) and stellar defense helped seal the win. Several clutch two-out hits didnât hurt, either.
The litany of contributors is long â
Jon Hull pitched a scoreless first inning (two strikeouts), drove in two runs and made a spectacular diving catch in center field; Alex Roche (âA-Rocheâ to his teammates) pitched the second inning and delivered a key two-out double to score two runs; Vikram Makayee notched the first home run of his career with a long drive to right field that scored two runs; Mike Davis pitched an inning, doubled and made two great plays at shortstop; Reid Schmidt scored three runs, pitched a scoreless inning and threw out a runner attempting to steal second; Connor Gallagher made a great catch on a high fly ball to center field and executed a perfect run down play at first base; Tyler Roberts pitched an inning, went 3-for-4 and stroked a two-out single scoring two runs; Ryan Errico stole two bases and made a nice catch on a line drive at second base; Nick Gerbo went 2-for-4 and closed out the win with yet another save in the sixth inning; and Seth Morris was on base two out of three at bats and stole a base.
For the Huskies, Chris Robinson banged out a pair of hits while Gary Braun and Ben Stoller both doubled. Kyle Morrissey and Tim McGrath also scored two runs apiece for the Huskies.
In order to reach the championship game, the Huskies had to get by a tough Base Technologies team, 8-6. Braun and Stoller were the offensive heroes with three hits apiece. Kevin Shpunt and Nick Heron each pitched a scoreless inning in the win.
Other members of the Huskies include Robert Linden, Brandon Marks, Ricky Kerins, Ryan Palmer and Jonah Munez.

Dylan Poppy, Stephen Zvon and Alex Nordstrom combined on a three-hitter, striking out eight batters and leading the Black Knights to a 4-0 win over Team Fahey at Glander Field on October 31.
Connor Blanc, Zvon and Cody Gotthardt came up with key hits in the fourth inning, helping the Knights scored three runs. On the day, Tim Roberts was 2-for-2 with a double, single and three stolen bases. Michael Reyen, Kevin Morrissey and Eric McCabe played excellently in the field.
For Team Fahey, Mikey Tobin â struggling with an elbow injury â pitched a whale of a ball game, allowing just one run while striking out 5. Jake Tolsen had a soaring hit to right field in the fifth, but it was caught to end the inning. Will Northrop, Cullen Merrifield and John Fellan headed up the defense for Team Fahey.
The Knights reached the finals with a 9-5 win over the Screaming Gators. Blanc had two big hits, scoring two runs and driving in two more. Nordstrom struck out three batters in two scoreless innings of work while Conor Donnelly played well in the field.
