A Holiday Art Show Where Good
Things Come In Small Packages
WOODBURY â For anyone whose list of favorite things includes all that glitters, then a trip to P.H. Miller Gallery should be at the top of that list this holiday season.
For the past six months a select group of artists has been collaborating with the galleryâs owner and frame maker, Peter Miller. The result is a collection of 18 exclusive paintings by well-known area artists that are dressed to thrill in original museum quality frames.
A special holiday exhibition, âBlack Tie,â will be on view at the gallery from November 16 until January 15. A festival yet casual reception is planned for Friday, November 19, from 7 to 9 pm.
Each frame has been designed with the development of the paintings in mind. Artists met with Mr Miller on a regular basis to discuss the progress of the artwork and the frame. Contrary to commercially produced frames, these borders have been carefully planned to complement each painting, from the carving and shape to the color of the gold.
Artists represented are Robert Crawford, Joy Bristol, Thomas Adkins, Judith Andrew, Tom Yost, Helene Brier, Robert Holden, Ella Knox, John Schieffer, Katrina Schmidt-Rinke, David Heskes and Mary Whyte.
The paintings range from still life to traditional landscape to figurative and contemporary abstraction. Like other holiday shows, this one focuses on small paintings, however these works are anything but ordinary. In a world where bigger has become not necessarily better, these paintings hold their own with a grace and beauty that larger paintings could only hope for.
P.H. Miller Gallery is at 495 Main Street South (Route 6) in Woodbury.
The gallery is open daily, and can be contacted by calling 203-263-3939.
