Fine Art, Jewelry And Opera Weekend At The Sculpture Barn
NEW FAIRFIELD â In its most ambitious artistic initiative to date, Boyajian Sculpture Barn will present simultaneous exhibitions and a concert at the studios-gallery-performance space and sculpture field owned by the artist David Boyajian and his wife Carter, a director and choreographer, the weekend of November 12-14.
Opening at 6 pm on Friday will be the first two hours of David Boyajianâs âAtelierâ exhibition, featuring the work of member artists of the Sculpture Barn. Under Mr Boyajianâs tutelage, the group has been making contemporary art for years. Works selected for the exhibition range from abstract sculpture to kinetic pieces fabricated from steel, stainless steel, copper and aluminum as well as charcoal and pastel drawings.
The member artists are Richard Sawicki of Redding, Whitney Gaeta of Brookfield, Nancy Smith of Stamford, Joseph Mandracchia of New Fairfield, Steve Johnson of Avon, Raychel Wengenroth of Ridgefield, and three New Yorkers: Ted Rotante of Mount Kisco, Barbara Landau-Stogo, Scarsdale, and Louis J. Slovinsky, Cross River.
At 8 pm on Friday the gallery will be transformed into a stage, where Columbia recording artist and world class soprano Gloria Capone will perform. Ms Capone will present a program she call âFatal Attractionâ â songs on the theme of women âdone inâ for the sake of love. Sheâll include arias from Carmen, Tosca and Madame Butterfly, as well as show tunes illustrating her theme. Ms Capone and her piano accompanist, Arnie Gross, are New Fairfielders.
Ms Capone will be offering a second performance on Sunday at 3 pm.
Admission to Ms Caponeâs concerts is $20, and includes a wine and cheese reception in the art-filled gallery. Proceeds from the concerts will go to the non-profit conservation group, Friends of Ball Pond. Reservations are recommended; call 746-6101.
Hours on Saturday will be 10 am to 6 pm and on Sunday the Sculpture Barn will be open from 1 to 3 pm.
âAtelierâ will then remain on view through December 11 by appointment.
In addition to the work by his students, David Boyajian will preview his latest steel and stone pieces. Several can be seen in the adjoining three-acre sculpture field as well as in the galleryâs performance space doubling as the scenery for the concerts. A departure from his highly regarded âBud and Seedâ series, his new work will be comprehensively introduced in a solo show titled âNature Constructedâ at the University of New Havenâs Seaton Gallery, opening in December
