Warrant Arrest
At about 2:40 pm November 4 in Litchfield, Newtown police arrested James Johann, 42, of Danbury on a warrant and charged him with three counts of second degree failure to appear in court, plus individual counts of driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, and unsafe passing.
Police said the original motor vehicle charges stem from a November 2003 incident in Newtown. Police held Johann on $50,000 bail for a November 5 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.
Johann was being held this week on $50,000 bail in the Bridgeport Correctional Center for an upcoming court appearance.
Shoplifting Charge
Police said Aristotle Zoto, 33, of 45-A South Main Street was stopped by store security personnel at the Big Y supermarket on Queen Street on the afternoon of November 4 after he allegedly attempted to shoplift two toys worth about $6.
Police charged Zoto with sixth degree larceny and released him on $250 bail for a November 18 court appearance.
Hattertown Theft
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Joseph DiGrandi, 17, of Bethel turned himself over to them on the afternoon of November 4 and was charged with fourth degree larceny.
The arrest stems from am July 31 incident in which some items were taken from a Hattertown Road home, police said. Fourth degree larceny involves the theft of items worth between $500 and $1,000.
After processing, police released DiGrandi on a promise to appear in court November 18.
Headlamps
Police said they stopped motorist Pedro Cajamarca, 39, of Danbury on Main Street about 8:30 pm November 7 for driving with his headlamps off.
On investigating, police charged Cajamarca with failure to have automotive headlamps illuminated and with driving while under suspension.
Police released Cajamarca on $236 bail for a November 19 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Church Hill Collision
Motorist Jane Maher, 39, of 8 Juniper Road, who was driving a 1999 Volvo S-70, was pulling out of the St Rose Church parking lot driveway onto Church Hill Road about 7 pm November 1, as motorist Robert McNamara, 57, of Danbury was driving a 2002 Audi A-4 station wagon eastward on Church Hill Road with his headlamps off, police said.
Maher, in the Volvo, did not see the approaching Audi driven by McNamara and the two vehicles collided when the Volvo pulled onto the street, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned McNamara for failure to have his headlamps illuminated.
Nissan Vs Ford
Motorist Katherine Calario, 31, of Danbury, who was driving a 2002 Ford Escort eastward on Church Hill Road about 4:50 pm November 4, attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot at 92 Church Hill Road, when eastbound motorist Debbie Glaser, 43, of 14 Russett Road, who was driving a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder behind the Ford, slid on the wet road and struck the Ford, police said.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Glaser for following too closely.
Church Hill Collision
At about 5:26 pm November 1, motorist Gladys Taylor, 38, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina westward on Church Hill Road, attempted to make a left turn into the parking lot at the Blue Colony Diner, police said.
At that time, motorist Louise Howell, 49, of 48 High Rock Road, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan, was traveling eastward on Church Hill Road in the âright turn onlyâ lane of two eastward lanes, police said.
Taylor did not see Howell approaching and the two vehicles collided, police said. There were no injuries.
Police said they issued Taylor a misdemeanor summons for failure to grant the right of way and for failure to carry the minimum amount of automotive insurance.
I-84 DUI
State police said they detected motorist Brian Guidi, 22, of Oxford driving 87 miles per hour and racing with another vehicle on westbound Interstate 84 between Exits 11 and 10 at about 12:05 am November 6, after which stopped Guidi to investigate.
Guidi failed field sobriety testing and was charged with driving under the influence and with reckless driving, state police said. Guidi was released on $500 bail for a November 15 court appearance.
Blowout
Motorist Bianca Chimbo, 37, of Danbury was driving a 1995 station wagon westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, about 7 pm November 5, when a nearby tractor-trailer truck had a blowout on one of its tires, resulting in a piece of the tire striking the station wagon, state police said. Chimbo was not injured.
Fuel Tank Puncture
Motorist Patricia Rockwell, 47, of 2 Lincoln Road was traveling on westbound Interstate 84âs Exit 10 off-ramp about 7:30 pm November 2, when the 2001 Pontiac Aztek sport-utility vehicle she was driving struck an object on the road that punctured its fuel tank, state police said. Rockwell was not injured.
Marijuana Arrest
Police said that after they received a report of several Newtown High School students who were acting suspiciously, school administrators and the police officer who is assigned to the high school investigated and found that one student possessed a small amount of marijuana.
 That student, who is a male under age 16, later turned himself over to police at the police station and was charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. State law shields the identity of people under age 16 who are charged with crimes.
The male is scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on November 22.
DUI Arrest
Police said that motorist Patrick Lockwood, 33, of Bethel, who was driving a 1986 Ford Escort on Church Hill Road near a nighttime paving project at about 10:26 pm November 9, drove around some barriers that were positioned there to close off a road section for paving work.
Police said they investigated and gave Lockwood field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence.
Police held Lockwood on $1,000 bail for a November 10 court appearance.
Berkshire Road
Near 12 Berkshire Road at about 5:58 pm November 6, westbound motorist Joel DeMarco, 37, of Southbury, who was driving a 1987 Isuzu Trooper, passed to the right of westbound motorist Raymond Onidi, 59, of Shelton, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Stratus, resulting in a collision, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued DeMarco a written warning for passing on the right.
New Lebbon Road
Motorist Henry Washburn, 17, of 4 Skytop Drive, who was driving a 1997 Subaru Impreza station wagon westward on a wet New Lebbon Road at about 7:17 pm November 4, slid on the road, struck a rock along the eastbound shoulder, crossed back into the westbound lane and then went off the westbound side of the road, striking a tree, police said.
Neither Washburn, nor passenger Jake Rebb, 15, of 254 Berkshire Road, were injured, police said.
Police issued Washburn an infraction ticket for traveling unreasonably fast.
Three Charged
At about 6:24 pm November 10, police pulled over a vehicle on Church Hill Road after noticing that its registration had expired, police said.
During an investigation, an amount of marijuana and two counterfeit identifications were found, police said.
Police charged motorist Kyle Gallic, 19, of 46-A Riverside Road with driving an unregistered vehicle, third degree forgery, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Police said they charged passenger Kim Gallic, 18, of the same address, with third degree forgery and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Also, police charged passenger Nick Harrison, 17, of 95 Forest Drive with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.
Police released Kyle Gallic on $250 bail. Kim Gallic and Nick Harrison were released on promises to appear in court. All three are scheduled for November 30 appearances in Danbury Superior Court.
Multiple Charges
Police report they arrested Richard Pulver, 19, of 22 Washington Avenue on November 10 on warrants listing charges including first degree failure to appear in court, two counts of second degree failure to appear in court, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Pulver was being held on $61,000 bail for a court appearance, police said.
