Crash At Off-Ramp

Connecticut State Police report Marissa Vecsey, 34, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2008 Honda Ridgeline, was traveling northbound off the Interstate 84 Exit 11 ramp at 8:36 pm November 6. Travis Morrell, 31, of Danbury, operating a 2016 Nissan Rogue, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way. Morrell was merging left into the turn lane of the Interstate 84 on-ramp. Vecsey took a right turn off the Exit 11 ramp and the front of her vehicle struck the left front area of Morrell’s vehicle.

Vecsey admitted to police that she was speeding and made too wide a turn off the ramp. She complained of chest, back, and wrist pain and was evaluated at the scene but declined transport. Morrell complained of head, knee and right wrist pain, and was transported to Danbury Hospital. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage.

Vecsey was issued an infraction for making an improper turn and operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration.

Parking Lot Bump

Newtown Police report Robert McNeil, 86, of Southbury, operating a 2005 Lincoln Aviator, was backing up in the rear parking lot of 75 Church Hill Road at 3:11 pm November 7. A 2017 Ford Taurus owned by John Preato of Beacon Falls was also parked in the lot. McNeil backed into the Taurus, striking the passenger side front bumper.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Failure To Grant Right Of Way

Newtown Police report Joyce DeWolf, 87, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Audi A3, was traveling southbound on Trades Lane at 10:14 am November 8. James Stepien, 22, of Southington, operating a 2010 Acura TI, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way. DeWolf turned left into the westbound lane on Wasserman Way and the front left area of her vehicle struck the front passenger door panel of Stepien’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

DeWolf was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Same Lane Collision

Newtown Police report Derek Calderara, 33, of Newtown, operating a 2013 BMW 535xi, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way at 6:55 pm November 8. He was traveling behind a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe operated by Justin Fern, 47, of Bethel. Calderara moved into the left lane when the westbound lane became two lanes. Fern attempted to also move into the left hand lane but struck Calderara’s vehicle.w

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Calderara was issued a verbal warning for making an improper turn.

No License, No Insurance

Newtown Police report Chanel Brown, 45, of Hamden, was arrested at 11:48 am November 9 on the charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension, and improper passing.

She was released on a $200 cash bond with a court date of November 23 in Danbury Superior Court.

Unsafe Backing

Newtown Police report Favier Perez, 41, of Homestead, Fla., operating a 2005 Ford F750, was stopped for traffic in the westbound travel lane of Button Shop Road at 12:14 pm November 9. Windelfo Bueno, 43, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Ford Explorer, was stopped in traffic behind Perez. Perez attempted to back up and the rear of his vehicle collided with the front of Bueno’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Perez was issued a verbal warning for unsafe backing.

Three Car Accident

Newtown Police report Eduardo Coello, 37, of East Haven, operating a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 3:49 pm November 9. Kesley Rivera, 33, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2015 BMW X3, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road ahead of Coello, and stopped to turn left into a driveway. Benjamin Davis, 18, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Mercedes-Benz C300, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road and was between Coello and Rivera, and stopped behind Rivera. Coello was unable to stop in time and rear ended Davis, pushing Davis’ vehicle forward to strike Rivera’s vehicle.

A passenger in Coello’s vehicle was transported to Danbury Hospital for injuries to his head and back. Davis was evaluated by EMS and declined transport. Two passengers in Rivera’s vehicle were evaluated by EMS and declined transport. Coello’s and Davis’ vehicles were towed from the scene.

Coello was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Hit Air Conditioners

Newtown Police report Edyta Bobik, 42, of Berlin, operating a 2017 Toyota Highlander, was in the parking lot of 94 South Main Street and backing southbound along the rear of the building at 6:34 pm November 10. The rear of her vehicle struck two air conditioning units.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Struck By Unknown Vehicle

Newtown Police report that a 2019 Kia Sorrento owned by Holly Whitmore of Brookfield was parked unoccupied in the parking lot of 25 Main Street at some time on November 10. An unknown vehicle impacted the left driver’s side of the vehicle. The incident was reported to police at 8:41 am November 11. There were no witnesses to the incident and no cameras.

Rear-Ended On Church Hill

Newtown Police report that Jillian Bobowick, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2002 Ford Explorer, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 4:57 pm November 11. She was traveling behind a 2016 Honda Odyssey operated by Hyejin Lee, 45, of Brookfield. Bobowick rear-ended Lee.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action is mentioned in the report.

Lost Control, Rolled On Roof

Newtown Police report Taylor Petrie, 18, of Stratford, operating a 2013 Honda Accord, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 8:59 pm November 11. While negotiating a left hand curve, Petrie lost control and slid sideways, and Petrie’s vehicle struck a mailbox. As the vehicle, still moving sideways, left pavement onto grass, it rolled onto its roof.

No injuries were reported. Petrie’s vehicle was towed.

Petrie was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hit Lamp Post

Newtown Police report Marie Tinord, 34, of New York, N.Y., operating a 2015 Mazda 3, was in the parking lot at 133 Mt Pleasant Road at 2:32 pm November 12. While in the lot, she hit a lamp post with the car’s front fender, damaging the post.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.

DUI Arrest Follows Collision

Newtown Police report Frederic Clark, 64, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Subaru Impreza, was traveling on westbound Main Street at 8:21 pm November 12. Richard Natoli, 68, of Southbury, operating a 2012 Nissan Murano, was parked along the northbound shoulder of Main Street. Natoli’s vehicle was struck from behind by Clark’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Clark was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and for failure to maintain a proper lane. He was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of November 23 in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure To Appear

Newtown Police report that at approximately 3:49 pm November 15, officers were dispatched to Walgreen’s Pharmacy, 49 South Main Street, for a health and welfare check on a disheveled woman walking around her vehicle. Upon further investigation, officers found that the woman, Melissa Teixeira, 49, of Newtown, had two outstanding warrants for second-degree failure to appear.

Teixeira was placed under arrest and transported to the Newtown Police Department.

She was released on a $500 bond and given a court date of November 29 at New Haven Superior Court.
