Dentists' Candy Buyback Program Provides Treats For Soldiers In Iraq
Dentistsâ Candy Buyback Program
Provides Treats For Soldiers In Iraq
Dental Associates reported this week that its 2004 Halloween Candy Buyback Program was a âsweetâ success, with more than 733 pounds of candy redeemed by local children for the Dental Associates buyback of $2 per pound.
As for what to do with the 733 pounds of candy it collected, Dental Associates is planning to make it a real âtreatâ for some American servicemen and women in Iraq, by shipping it to the US 256th Brigade Combat Team.
Dental Associates employee Theresa Pacuk, who has played âEnamella,â the tooth fairy, both this year and last, said the children definitely were more eager to turn in their candy in this Halloween.
âIn fact, we collected 309 pounds more candy than in 2003, so the word about the buyback program is obviously getting around. When I appear as Enamella and hand out the cash awards during the actual buyback, they kids get very excited and want to tell you all about their plans to save the money, or visit the toy store. The cutest part is when I get tooth fairy questions. One little boy actually wanted me to do magic this year. He thought I could snap my fingers and disappear, so I told him that the magic only works at night, in the dark. Fortunately, he was satisfied with that answer. Parents and kids seem to love the whole program, so weâre going to work to make it an annual event. This yearâs decision to donate the candy to our servicemen and women in Iraq is just a wonderful âfeel goodâ bonus for all those who participated.â
