Garner Inmate Assaults Two Correction Officers
An inmate at the stateâs high-security Garner Correctional Institution at 50 Nunnawauk Road allegedly assaulted two correction officers at the prison on November 13, according to a state Department of Correction (DOC) spokesman.
DOC Director of External Affairs Brian Garnett said November 17 that while inmate Kevin Vertefeuille, 28, was being escorted from a shower room to his prison cell at about 9:45 am on November 13, Vertefeuille became disruptive and assaulted correction officers Michael Richardson and Karl Wagher.
Garnett said Richardson received a hand injury and Wagher received a knee injury. Both men were transported to Danbury Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and released, Mr Garnett said.
Vertefeuille received cuts in the incident, Mr Garnett said. State police were investigating the case.
Vertefeuille is being held in Garner as an unsentenced inmate on $1 million bail on a controlling charge of fourth degree sexual assault.
