Occupation: Iâm a sales rep with F&S Oil and Propane out of Waterbury, a family-owned company that has partnered with the local Grease Guys and offers our own PureGreen, a biofuel. Iâve been in the oil business for over 20 years and now with the biofuel, thereâs a resurgence of concern about the environment and actually doing something for the earth. So Iâm excited about this.
Family: My wife, Alice, is a music teacher and singer. She formerly taught at St Rose. We have three children. Anna Marie is 16 and a junior at Westover School in Middlebury. Elena Rose is a freshman at Westover. Sheâs 14. Michael is 10 and goes to the Housatonic Valley Waldorf School.
Pets: We have a pet pot-bellied pig, Gubby, who is 300 pounds, all of that. We have four ducks, currently, named Frappacino, Cocoa, Cupcake, and Zucchini; one parakeet, Blueberry; and a cockatiel named Macaroni.
How long have you lived in Newtown? Iâve been here for 16 years.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like to garden, Iâm a big vegetable gardener. I love bike riding. There are still a lot of undeveloped areas in Newtown that are so beautiful to see when you are biking. We live on Lake Zoar, so we kayak and canoe a lot on the lake, and Iâm a subdeacon with St Peter and Paul Church in Bethel on Dodgingtown Road, so a lot of my free time is spent there.
Do you have a favorite movie or book? I kind of like the classics when we watch movies. Thereâs something between the lines of the old movies. Iâm also an avid reader of the lives of saints. My favorite compiler of saintsâ lives is St Dimitri of Rostov, a 14th Century saint. His writings have an unbelievable authenticity about them.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? We pretty much travel in New England. We have gone to Block Island, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire. New England is our steady diet. We love it here.
What is the best thing about Newtown? Itâs a beautiful town. Iâve never stopped appreciating it. It retains its character. Every season of the year itâs beauty is untouched and fresh.
Do you have a hero? I would say St Nicholas, the archetype of Santa Claus. He was a real man around 300 AD from what is present day Turkey. He had godlike qualities, and he was charitable and generous. He had an unswerving boldness for the truth.
Do you have a personal philosophy? Love your Lord the God with all your mind, your heart, your soul, and your strength and love your neighbor as yourself.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? I still like watching the old Westerns on TV, like Bonanza and Gunsmoke. I sneak them in whenever I can.
