To the Editor:

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your article “HOM student offers a lesson on stuttering” about the courageous work of Emmett Paulson. Growing up long ago as a child who stuttered there was not any type of informative presentation close to the one presented by Emmett.

I salute him and how he continues in his advocacy.

What I personally have found helpful in educating the public is to relate all of the successful people who have stuttered. The Stuttering Foundation website (StutteringHelp.org) has a list of “Famous People Who Stutter,” along with a section with biographical articles on famous people who stutter. The articles are on people like Sam Neill, Peggy Lipton, Dominick Dunne, Bill Withers and B.B. King. People who stutter have achieved great things.

Once again, I have never read anything like the work being done by Emmett Paulson.

The public needs more education about stuttering to say the least.

Sincerely,

Marvin Goldfarb
