Superintendent of Schools Dr Lorrie Rodrigue announced in a letter to staff and parents on November 23 that there are additional confirmed COVID-19 cases at two schools in the district.

The superintendent’s letter is below.

Dear Parents and Staff:

Over the weekend, we were notified of additional COVID cases at both HOM and Reed, which have resulted in quarantining students and staff in both schools. Based on contact tracing in partnership with our local health department, those that need to quarantine have already been contacted. Since we are already in remote learning, staff and students will continue to engage in teaching and learning through the distance learning platform.

We will continue to upload the EdAdvance report on our district website detailing weekly COVID information and trends for Newtown and Fairfield County. Again, you can continue to find additional information on COVID-19 symptoms, please see: cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html.

As always, staff and students exhibiting any of the above symptoms, or feeling ill, should call their medical provider to report their symptoms and ask about testing prior to seeking in-person care at a clinic, physician’s office, or hospital.

For more information on what to do if you or a family member has possible symptoms, a diagnosis, or exposure to COVID-19, please see: portal.ct.gov/-/media/SDE/COVID-19/Addendum-5-Interim-Guidance-for-Responding-to-COVID-19-Scenarios-in-CT-School-Districts.pdf.

Be safe and stay well.

Dr Lorrie Rodrigue, Superintendent
