 Seventh-Most Dangerous City
HARTFORD (AP) â Hartford has been named the nationâs seventh-most dangerous city, while Danbury and Stamford have been recognized for their safety, according to a companyâs annual ranking based on crime statistics.
Leading the list of most dangerous cities is Camden, N.J., according to a rankings released Monday by Morgan Quitno Corp. The company publishes ``City Crime Rankings,ââ an annual reference book that will be published next month. Following Camden was Detroit; Atlanta; St. Louis; Gary, Ind.; and Washington, D.C.
The top five safest cities were Newton, Mass.; Brick Township, N.J.; Amherst, N.Y.; Mission Viejo, Calif.; and Clarkstown, N.Y.
Danbury ranked as the 16th-safest city, while Stamford was listed in 25th place.
The rankings look at the rate for six crime categories: Murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft. It compares 350 cities with populations of 75,000 or more that reported crime data to the FBI. Final 2003 statistics, released by the FBI in October, were used to determine the rankings.
