"I love talking to the kids," Ms Thermes said. "It's always a delight!"
âI love talking to the kids,â Ms Thermes said. âItâs always a delight!â
When I Was Built is the story of Ms Thermesâ colonial-era Newtown residence, told from the perspective of the house itself.
Ms Thermes was invited to sign copies of the book during the book fair by Hawley PTA member Patti Durr.
âI thought it would be great to bring in a local author for the book fair, especially with parent/teacher conferences going on at the same time,â she said. âWe thought it would increase the response.â
A steady stream of parents and children came in throughout the afternoon, many perusing the Scholastic books and educational materials with enthusiasm.
Third grader Jenna Calandro was eager to have her copy of When I was Built signed by Ms Thermes.    Â
Her mother, Charlene Calandro, said that Jenna was a âbig reader.â
âMy favorite book is Charlotteâs Web,â said Jenna. âIâve read it a bunch of times.â
In addition, Jennaâs father, Dan Calandro, is a budding author.
He is currently in the process of getting his first novel, a gritty tale of murder and suspense, published.
Ms Thermes said she was currently in the final stages of wrapping up her next childrenâs book, due in 2006.
âAll I can say for now is that it involves a story told from the perspective of a shoe,â she said. âIâm very excited about it!â
