Local Man Charged With Unlawful Restraint

Police have charged a local man with second degree unlawful restraint and also with risk of injury to a minor in connection with an incident that occurred at an unspecified place in town in October.

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, William Cyr, 43, of 17 Birch Rise Drive turned himself over to them on the afternoon of November 21 and was charged.

Police said that on the night of October 26, Cyr and the victim of the incident became involved in a physical altercation regarding telephone usage. Police did not identify the victim other than to say she was a female under age 16.

Cyr allegedly pushed the victim against some kitchen cabinets and shouted at her, police said. Cyr later attempted to restrain the victim by wrapping her in tape, police said.

The victim, however, was able to escape, police said.

After arresting Cyr, police released him on a promise to appear November 22 for arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.
