Newtown's Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot unfolded in a light rain on a cool, 40-degree morning. Runners and walkers made their way from Newtown Middle School and back for the annual event to benefit the CH Booth Library and this year featured first-time top overall and female finishers.

Noah Masotta, a former Newtown High School standout runner, won his first Turkey Trot in his third time running the 5K race, He came across the finish line in a time of 16:54.41. Masotta said the race course goes through the neighborhood.

"I watched the race growing up and it's fun to finally win it," he said.

Kyle Jeffers was second in a time of 17:34.39, Justin Halmose third in 17:45.29, Joey Conrod fourth in 17:56.43, Paul Gregg fifth in 18:05.90, and Denise Grohn placed sixth as the top female finisher clocked in at 18:15.37.

Grohn ran the race for the first time. She is new to town doing an internship at Fairfield Equine Associates and enjoyed the challenging course.

"I'm from Ohio so it's hillier here," Grohn said.
