Garden Club Greens Sale Returning December 7
For over 30 years The Garden Club of Newtown has presented its Holiday Greens & Gift Sale during the first weekend of December.
The sale offers hand decorated wreaths, boxwood trees, centerpieces, kissing balls and other hand-crafted holiday items. This annual event has been hosted in various community locations, and is highly anticipated by the residents of Newtown.
This year’s sale has been scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 9 am to noon. It is returning for the third year to The Great Room of Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.
Members of The Garden Club of Newtown prepare the hand decorated items during numerous workshops in advance of the sale. Members collect decorative items and novelty containers throughout the year to create the unique, holiday themed items.
The club will add a silent auction to its holiday sale this year, replacing a raffle that has been done in previous years. Among the items being offered is a handmade quilt, antiques including holiday mugs, theme baskets, and two knit ponchos. One of the ponchos was made from alpaca wool and the other is washable.
Funds from the annual fundraiser support the club’s annual scholarship to a Newtown student pursuing environmental and related studies; its monthly programs, which are open to the public at no cost; and ongoing Club expenses.
