Holiday Sale At C.H. Booth Library, December 7-8
The Friends of the C.H. Booth Library’s popular Holiday Sale will return Saturday and Sunday, December 7-8, to the lower meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.
Sale hours are 9:30 am-5 pm on Saturday and 11 am-5 pm on Sunday.
Now in its 20th year, the Holiday Sale is part of Newtown’s early kick-off to the holiday season. This year’s sale once again offers a “huge selection of holiday and gift items, all reasonably priced, for everyone on shoppers’ gift lists,” says Holiday Sale Chair Marge Gingolaski.
The Friends will be selling thousands of new and like-new gift-quality books for all ages, jigsaw puzzles, video games, stocking-stuffers, media and other gift items.
“We also will have a nice collection of jewelry, all of it valued by Michael’s Jewelry Store, as well as an especially large selection of jigsaw puzzles, many of them still factory-wrapped,” Gingolaski added, noting one of the more unusual items for sale is a wooden puzzle that creates a working model of Leonardo da Vinci’s Lyre.
All books are in excellent condition and arranged for easy browsing. Adult nonfiction ranges from art, cooking and crafts to history, biography and natural world, and everything in between.
Fiction readers will find a large assortment of novels in all genres — mysteries, thrillers, romance, classics and more.
Holiday Sale shoppers should also plan to check out a huge selection of new books from Taunton Press.
“There are DIY books on sewing, knitting and other handicrafts, as well as home repair, landscaping, cooking, woodworking, wooden toymaking and much more. Shoppers will find a multitude of new DVDs on the same subjects,” Gingolaski notes.
Friends volunteer Denise Kaiser said the offerings of children’s books are “not only in pristine condition, but there’s something for every age group: board books and picture books for the youngest ones, easy-to-read fiction and nonfiction for kids new to the joys of reading, and books for established readers.
“We have some of the most popular titles, yet recognize how hard it can be to find just the right book for the older kids. So, be sure to ask one of our knowledgeable volunteers for assistance,” she added.
For both adults and children, shoppers will also find many beautiful books that convey the joy of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
Those who are unable to make it to the two-day sale will be able to shop for holiday items at the Friends’ Little Book Store, near the Circulation Desk on the main floor of C.H. Booth Library, in the weeks leading up to the New Year. Gingolaski advises that jewelry items will only be available on December 7 and 8.
Holiday Sale shoppers can pay by cash, check, or credit card. All proceeds from the sale benefit the C.H. Booth Library. For more information, visit boothbooksale.org.
