HUD Honors Kennedy Center

TRUMBULL — The Kennedy Center, one of the largest rehabilitation agencies in Connecticut, was honored by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently. The agency received one of the highest inspection scores in the country during HUD’s first-ever nationwide inspection of all 29,000 HUD-assisted multi-family housing complexes.

The Kennedy Center’s residential division serves more than 94 individuals with disabilities in 14 area residential facilities and supported living options. Each group home is licensed by the Department of Mental Retardation (DMR) and accommodates between three and 12 individuals.

The Kennedy Center, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, serves more than 1,200 persons with disabilities from birth through senior citizens each year. It operates two daytime “community experience” programs in Newtown: Project Choice, 117 Mt Pleasant Road, and Project Act, at 4 Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook.
