Amy McPadden canned 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Newtown Mobil improved to 4-0 with a 65-38 win over Alpine Realty in womenâs basketball league action at The Gym at Newtown.

Jen Kelly dropped in 14 and Amy Proulx and Lynn Yeager each chipped in 13. For Alpine, Shelby Neveriski and Tori Anderton combined for 38 points. Sarah Ferskky added 12 and Kelly Fengler chipped in with eight.

Newtown Phone Book defeated Newtown Performance, 61-48, behind Maura Keenanâs 26 points and 14 rebounds. Allyson Padden added 19 points and nine rebounds as Rachel McGrath, Colleen Ruiz and Alex Heron combined for 16 points. For Performance, Katie Abromovitch popped in 30 points and grabbed 12 boards. Jody Rajcula added eight.

The Gym at Newtown captured its first win with a 62-52 decision over Walsh Logging. Jaime Murphy and Jen Thomas each scored 16 points and combined for 30 rebounds as Janet Duffey dropped in 12 points and Mel Darrah added 10.For Walsh, Jen Z. scored a game-high 30 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Joanne Duncanson and Jen Dayton combined for 22 points.

In week three action ...

Proulx canned a pair of three-pointers with two minutes left to break open a close game as Newtown Mobil defeated The Gym at Newtown, 74-60. McFadden dropped in 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Mobil as Proulx and Kelly popped in 17 points each. Lynn Yeager chipped in 15 points. For The Gym, Murphy notched 16 points while Duffey added 13 and Thomas chipped in 12 with 10 rebounds. Carolyn Schrieber added 10 points.

In other action, Jen Z. dropped in 20 points with four three pointers and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Walsh Logging past Newtown Performance, 52-43. Tracy Paella added 17 points while Duncanson, Dayton and Jen Knapp combined for 15 points. For Performance, Abromovitch canned 27 points as Rajcula and Jen Timpanelli dropped in six points apiece.

Newtown Phone Book pulled out a win against an undermanned Alpine Realty team, 74-61. Keenan led Phone Book with 30 points and 10 rebounds while Heron dropped in 18 points and grabbed eight boards. Denise Passano, McGrath and Ruiz combined for 26 points. Anderton powered Alpine with 32 points and 15 rebounds as Fengler added 23 points and 12. Sherri Baggett tossed in six points and grabbed five rebounds.

In week two action â

McFadden canned 32 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead Newtown Mobil past Walsh Logging, 63-51. Proulx dropped in 22 points as Kelly Pinkney chipped in eight points. Jen Z. powered Walsh with 26 points and 19 rebounds. Jen D. added 11 points as Paella, Jen Knapp and Doris Ratner combined for 14 points.

Newtown Phonebook dropped The Gym, 55-42, as Keenan led scored 15 points. Heron and Allyson Padden each scored 12 points. Passano added eight points and Karen Powell chipped in six. Murphy led The Gym with 14 points and 14 rebounds as Darrah and Jen Thomas each scored nine points. Natalie Russo, Schrieber and Duffey combined for 10 points.

Alpine Realty pounded Newtown Performance, 67-38, as Anderton dropped in 25 points. Alison Coleman added in 15 and Christin Morgatto chipped in 13. Sarah Gersky and Fengler combined for 14 points. For Newtown Performance, Rajcula scored 16 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Trolle and Timpanelli chipped in eight apiece while Cook added six points.

In week one action â

Anderton scored 23 points and Shelby Neveriski added 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Alpine Realty past Walsh Logging, 65-45. Morgatto added 10 points as Fengler chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds. Coleman and Gersky combined for six points and 15 rebounds. For Walsh, Dayton scored 15 points as Jen Z. scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Duncanson also added 14 points.

Abromovitch scored 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Newtown Performance defeated The Gym, 58-33. Rajcula added 13 points and 10 rebounds as Cook and Trolle combined for 12 points and 11 rebounds. For The Gym, Natalie Russo had 14 points while Thomas added 10 points. Duffy and Schrieber combined for nine points and six rebounds.

Pinkney and Proulx combined for 11 points. For Phonebook, Keenan and Padden scored 12 points each as McGrath, Heron and Powell combined for 16 points.

I am sorry but $88.8 million dollars to educate 4030 kids is way out of line! That's over $22k per kid, used to be $8k per kid, the kids aren't getting any smarter, the administration eats all the cost. Time to cut the budget by 20% and also cut the $225k salary of the superintendent and $193k of the superintendent assistant ! You can get a lot of teachers for $400k wasted for 2 overpaid positions. Common sense should tell you that spending $2.5 million per every week for population less than 30k people is just way too high! Also voting should be done by mail, enough with these nonsensical referendums where barely 16% of voters show up. 51% voters approval should be MANDATED!

Encouraging. The town budget squeaks by but the school budget got dinged. Let the games begin.

Who have you asked that didn't know where to cut? Its easy. Ideally, you would start with section 100 of the budget but the union prevents that. So I say you turn to page 18, put it on your dart board, and start reducing the head count. It's all you can do when the union controls the budget.

Vote Yes On April 23

The people have spoken, time to sharpen your pencils. If we look at the town budget for guidance the BOE should cut the budget from 4.4% to 2.75% I find the voting results very interesting ... We have approximately 4,030 students in our town, with a published 12:1 ratio which means we have 335 teachers. I would love to know the actual number if someone knows. If we account for their spouses that gets us very close to the number of people who voted yes for the budget and wished it would be higher (729).
