If the soccer and baseball fields are closed for the winter, that can only mean one thing – the pool is open and the Newtown Torpedoes are ready for action!

Despite a heartbreaking season opening loss to a mammoth Southbury team on November 4, the Torpedoes bounced back with a vengeance against tough New Milford with a 376-223 win.

This year already seems to be a family affair, with Kimmy and Krysta Gates grabbing multiple firsts; Amy, Sally and Kate Martinelli also having strong placings; and the Fagerholm’s – Annika, Abbie, Caroline and Peter – doing well also.

Powerhouse 8 and under Emily Campbell captured three firsts and a second against New Milford. The strong Linden family was well represented with Kaitlyn grabbing two firsts for the girls and brother Robert performing solidly for the boys.

Other stars for the boys proved to be Adam Harrison, Sean Fahey, Richard Huffman and Michael Hubbard, who were all difficult, if nearly impossible, to beat. Patrick Conte and Mason West were also unstoppable in the pool.

The next meet is Saturday, December 2 at Bristol.
