Senior services for Newtown seniors are available at the Multi-Purpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The Senior Center is under the auspices of The Commission on Aging. The center is run by the Senior Services Director Marilyn Place. For more information about programs offered at the Senior Center call 270-4310.

You may drop in at the Senior Center on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon for which you must reserve three days in advance.

Newtown has daily door-to-door minibus service Monday through Friday. Buses also run all day from the Senior Center to Sand Hill Plaza. On Fridays, the bus alternates between rides to Danbury Fair Mall and Berkshire Plaza in Danbury (to Wal-Mart Route 6). Cost is 65¢ each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip, 75¢ each way for out of town. Call 748-2511 TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE to book a ride and get the out-of-town Friday schedule.

This Week’s Programs

*Enjoy “CHRISTMAS IN HAWAII” with a Polynesian meal, traditional Hawaiian Christmas songs and dances, at the Hu Ke Lau restaurant and dinner theater in Chicopee, Mass. Then drive through Goodwin Park in Hartford for the HOLIDAY LIGHT FANTASIA. a two-mile spectacular, colorful light display. Depart the center on Tuesday, December 5, at 10 am. Cost is $63 per person

Holiday Events

*Christmas Bingo December 8 at 1.

*Annual CHRISTMAS PARTY featuring a gourmet buffet, music and entertainment and a 50/50 raffle, will be on Wednesday, December 13, from 11 am to 3 pm, at the Waterview on Route 34 on the Newtown/Monroe line. Music. The cost is $35 per person. Call 270-4310 for reservations.

*MAKE FRESH EVERGREEN CENTERPIECE on December 12 at 1 pm. Bring your own garden gloves and scissors or wire cutters. Call Senior Center for reservations so we have enough materials on hand.

*Annual COOKIE SWAP December 19 at 1 pm. Bring two dozen homemade, not store bought, and recipes for exchange. Call to sign up; you participate to swap.

*Christmas Bingo Party with Santa & Mrs Clause December 20 at 1 pm. Sing-along; RSVP to contribute hors d’oeuvres

*REMINDERS: *BLOOD PRESSURE checks on second Thursday of each month or the last Wednesday of the month.

*TAI CHI & CHI KUNG will be offered on Tuesdays from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Steve Kurimai will instruct the gentle arts of movement that promote mind-body connection, and improve balance, coordination and relaxation.

*WALKING FOR FITNESS every Tuesday and Thursday at 2 pm for 30 minutes.

*Let’s get together for the BREAKFAST CLUB every Thursday. Meet at center and take the van to the Blue Colony Diner. Limited to 12 persons at a time. Call to reserve a spot.

*Sign up for COMPUTER CLASSES on Monday and Tuesday, from 3 to 4:30 pm.

Menu For Week of December 4-8

Reservations must be made 3 days in advance.

Monday: December 4: Veal parmesan with mozzarella cheese, penne in marinara sauce, chopped spinach, parmesan cheese, Italian bread, ice cream cup.

Tuesday: December 5: Garlic chicken quarter, rice and beans, fiesta corn, buttermilk biscuit, orange juice, chocolate chip cookie.

Wednesday: Beef stew served over noodles, tossed salad with tomato and French dressing, dinner roll, cling peaches.

Thursday: Salisbury steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and deiced carrots, whole wheat bread, apricot halves.

Also, for planning ahead—

Monday: December 11: Stuffed salmon with dill sauce or chicken salad sandwich on oatmeal bread with lettuce and sliced tomato, rosemary roasted potato, mixed vegetables, oatmeal bread, seasonal fresh fruit.

Tuesday: December 12: Chicken noodle soup, unsalted crackers, turkey, ham and cheese grinder served with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise, coleslaw vinaigrette, pineapple juice, pistachio pudding with whipped topping.

Monday: AM hatha yoga, exercise; PM computer classes, chorus group

Tuesday: AM pinochle, country-western line dancing; PM Tai Chi & Chi Kung, walking for fitness, computer classes, crafts

Wednesday: AM exercise; PM bingo, crafts

Thursday: AM Breakfast Club, hatha yoga, cards; PM walking for fitness
