Six Charges

Police said they received a report about 9 am on November 30 informing them that a motor vehicle accident that had occurred in front of 107 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center.

Police said their investigation determined that motorist Janice Markey, 40, of 59 Riverside Road had been driving an unspecified vehicle in the westbound lane of Church Hill Road, after which the vehicle went onto a sidewalk and struck a lamppost, knocking the lamppost to the ground. There were no injuries.

After the collision occurred, Markey drove away from the accident scene and dropped off a child passenger at school, police said.

Police said they found Markey and stopped her on Church Hill Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Markey with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a minor, evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, failure to drive to the right, and failure to have automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Markey on $500 bail for a December 14 court appearance.

Jaguar off Road

Motorist Mitchell Swain, 30, of Omaha. Neb., was driving a 1995 Jaguar XJ6 sedan westward near 94 Riverside Road about 9:17 pm November 30, and then swerved to avoid a deer on the road, but struck a dirt embankment, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Swain for making a restricted turn.

Toddy Hill Road

At about 6 pm on November 29, motorist Margaret Zeiner, 55, of 101 Castle Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer SUV, was waiting at a traffic signal on Toddy Hill Road at its intersection with Berkshire Road, police report.

The Chevrolet then rolled backward, striking the front end of a 2007 Infiniti G-35 sedan driven by Erica Joyce, 48, of 23 Beechwood Drive, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Zeiner for unsafe backing.
