Police List Traffic Rules For Christmas Tree Lighting

The town will have its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremonies on the Ram’s Pasture, near the intersection of Elm Drive and Hawley Road, on the evening of Friday, December 2.

People will start gathering for the event about 6:30 pm, with the tree lighting planned to occur about 7 pm.

To provide for safe pedestrian traffic in the area, police will be enforcing some road closures and parking bans in that general area between 5 and 8 pm.

No motor vehicles, except emergency service vehicles, will be allowed to travel on Elm Drive between its intersections with Sugar Street and Borough Lane. Hawley Road also will be closed to traffic.

Vehicle parking will be prohibited: along Elm Drive between its intersections with Sugar Street and Borough Lane; along Hawley Road; along South Main Street between its intersections with Borough Lane and Glover Avenue; along Sugar Street between its intersections with South Main Street and Elm Drive; and along the driveway that links Sugar Street to Town Hall South.

Police said that the area affected by the temporary travel and parking rules will be marked using barricades, traffic cones, and No Parking signs.

Police officers will stationed at key locations to assist pedestrians and to aid traffic flow. People whose vehicles violate the rules will be subject to having their vehicles towed.
