Glass artist Heidrun Morgan stands in front of a tree inside a seating area at Avancé Esthétiques, where guests have been enjoying displays of her creations recently. The tree behind her is laden with ornaments of Ms Morgan’s creation. The day spa, within Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street, can be reached by calling 203-270-8911. Spa owner Melanie Allen said this week she and AIR Gallery Curator Rosemary Rau plan to begin doing an annual holiday open house to benefit local groups.
Avancé Esthétiques, in coordination with AIR Gallery, will present a special open house and community benefit on December 6. From 2 to 4 Sunday afternoon, the day spa in Sand Hill Plaza will host live music by Jim Allyn and students of The Music Workshop; a poinsettia sale; specials on spa services; food, drink and holiday cheer. A large part of the event will be a show and sale featuring fine art, small works, archival prints, artisal glass art and home accessories, and handcrafted wood pens and vases. Artwork by Adele Moros, Aline La Pointe and Laura Wilk, all members of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, will part of the celebration, as will glass pieces by Heidrun Morgan. The event will also introduce the work of artisanal wood craftsman Nicholas James. Holding some of the glass pieces that will be displayed on Sunday are, from left, Avancé Esthétiques Owner Melanie Allen; Newtown Woman’s Club Tri-President Marie Sturdevant; and AIR Gallery Curator Rosemary Rau. Partial proceeds from Sunday’s open house will benefit the woman’s club, which has been dedicated to enriching the lives of others through volunteer services for over 45 years.
