Marine Veterans of Fairfield County is participating in United States Marine Corps Reserve’s annual Toys for Tots program this holiday season. The campaign has multiple drop-off locations in Newtown for donations of new, unwrapped toys for babies, children, and teens.

Each year, donations are given to Newtown families in need through various organizations and churches, as well as to children in surrounding towns who are in need of support.

For many, these are the only toys they will receive during Christmastime.

Businesses in the community that are currently participating as a public drop-off location for Toys for Tots are:

Berkshire Hathaway, 84 South Main Street (Unit A); C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street; Coldwell Banker, 32 Church Hill Road (Suite 106); Cover Two, 100 Church Hill Road; Eggs and Co, 71 South Main Street; Giglio’s Landscaping, 71 South Main Street (Unit 12); McKenney Mechanical, 15 Commerce Road; Newtown Hardware, 61 Church Hill Road; Newtown Police Department, 191 South Main Street; Newtown Savings Bank, all locations; Popowich Chiropractic, 71 South Main Street; The Newtown Bee office, 5 Church Hill Road; Vein Institute, 33 Church Hill Road; and The Wireless Zone, 228 South Main Street (Sand Hill Plaza).

According to Dave Silber, Toys for Tots Area Coordinator for Marine Veterans of Fairfield County, “There is still time for businesses and individuals to make a difference for children in need this holiday season.”

Any company that would like to be a drop-off location or any person who would like to host a party with donations going to Toys for Tots can e-mail him directly at dave4handyman@gmail.com.

As in 2020, Silber is again offering contactless drop-off and pick-up of the boxes and promotional materials.

For those unable to drop off a toy in person, there is the option of making a monetary contribution or selecting a toy through the Virtual Toy Box at toysfortots.org.

The Toys for Tots program in Newtown ends on December 15 to allow time for the toys to be distributed to families before the holidays.

Organizations that can help distribute toys locally to those in need this year can e-mail Marine Veterans of Fairfield County at fairfieldctyUSMC@aol.com.

Upcoming Toy Drive

Newtown Police Department will be running a Toys for Tots collection on Saturday, December 4, from 10 am to 2 pm.

Officers will be accepting donations outside of TJ Maxx (Sand Hill Plaza), 228 South Main Street, and The Toy Tree, 32 Church Hill Road (Village at Lexington Gardens).

Reporter Alissa Silber can be reached at alissa@thebee.com.
