Town police have announced a road closure and parking bans that will be in effect near The Ram Pasture from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, December 4, in connection with the town’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and related activities.

Those activities including caroling and visits with Santa Claus, which will begin at 6:30 pm. The Christmas tree will be lit at 7 pm. The tree is located on the west side of Hawley Pond, near the corner of Elm Drive and Hawley Road.

To protect the many pedestrians attending the event, police will impose a road closure and several parking bans in that area.

The half-mile section of Elm Drive lying between its intersections with Sugar Street (Route 302) and with Borough Lane will be closed to traffic, police said. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed to use that road section, police said.

Areas that will have parking bans for the three-hour period are the section of Elm Drive between Sugar Street and Borough Lane; the full length of Hawley Road; the section of South Main Street between Borough Lane and Glover Avenue; the section of Sugar Street between South Main Street and Elm Drive; and the driveway that connects Sugar Street to Town Hall South.

Police said that the area affected by the road closure and parking bans will be marked using barricades, traffic cones, and “no parking” signs. Police will be posted at key locations to assist pedestrians and motorists. Motorists who violate the parking bans will be subject to having their vehicles towed.
