Johan A.       Stoorvogel

Johan A. Stoorvogel, 83, of Sandy Hook, died November 27 in the New Milford Nursing Home. Mr Stoorvogel was the husband of Carla M. (Schieffelers) Stoorvogel.

He was born in Wageningen, The Netherlands, on July 18, 1920, a son of the late Leendert and Johanna (Tydeman) Stoorvogel. Johan graduated from high school and junior college in Harderwijk, The Netherlands. He finished his higher education in rubber technology in Delft, The Netherlands, and PBNA in Arnhem, The Netherlands, and took diverse college courses in the United States.

In 1939, Mr Stoorvogel attended school for reserve officers. During World War II he was involved in the resistance movement. For that service, he received decorations from the Dutch, English, and American governments. After he emigrated to the United States in 1957, he was a consultant to the rubber industry until his retirement. He has been a Sandy Hook resident since 1993.

In addition to his wife, he will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Anton Stoorvogel of The Netherlands; he was predeceased by another brother, Leenhardt Stoorvogel.

Funeral services and burial will take place in The Netherlands. Arrangements by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
