Mattegat Named Police Commission Chairman
Police Commission members on December 2 elected Republican Carol Mattegat to serve as the panelâs chairman for the coming year.
Mrs Mattegat, a longtime commission member, served a one-year term as chairman in 1996. She has been the agencyâs vice chairman for the past year.
Police Commission member Republican Richard Simon nominated Mrs Mattegat as chairman. Democratic member Gerald Finnegan seconded the nomination, which was approved by the members.
Mrs Mattegat did not attend the December 2 session.
Democratic member Robert Connor, Jr, then nominated Mr Finnegan to serve as vice chairman. Mr Simon seconded the nomination, which was approved by the members.
Police Commission members also welcomed a new member to the agency. Republican Duane Giannini was seated as a member.
Mr Giannini fills the seat that was vacated by Republican James Reilly, who did not seek reelection to the post in the November elections. Mr Reilly, who served on the commission for eight years, was its chairman for the past five years.
