Students in kindergarten through fourth grade at Hawley Elementary School participated in a school-wide Self Kindness Day on Friday, November 22.

Lead Teacher Jenna Connors said that November has been Self Awareness Month at Hawley, where staff are teaching children social and emotional learning techniques.

The Self Kindness Day worked in conjunction with the lessons to show the importance of taking time to nurture the things that make each individual relaxed and happy.

Teachers and support staff oversaw 17 different activities that the children could choose from, which included basketball, painting, making Rainbow Looms, coding, and yoga — just to name a few.

Each student selected their top choices, then were assigned two sessions that lasted 45 minutes each.
