Grimes Honored By USA Track And Field
Waterbury-based Chase Collegiate School parent and Sandy Hook resident Yvonne Grimes, at the opening of the 33rd USA Track & Field Annual Meeting on December 1, received the Presidential Award.
The award is given annually to celebrate those who have made significant contributions to the sport of track and field and to those who create access for as wide a population as possible.
USA Track & Field Chairman and President Stephanie Hightower honored Grimes for her for work on and off the track, which has included raising $40,000 to help the family of an athlete suffering from brain cancer, and starting a non-profit organization to supply running gear to athletes who struggle to afford what they need to participate.
Grimes was honored in St. Louis by President Hightower in front of 1,000 volunteers, officials, athletes, coaches, and administrators.
The Grimes family has four students attending Chase and a graduate from the class of 2010.
