Olds Vs Deer

Motorist Christopher Sterk, 39, of New Milford, who was driving a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero westbound on Currituck Road about 7 pm December 11, collided with a deer near 172 Currituck Road, police said. Sterk was not injured in the mishap, police said.

Ford Rollover

Motorist James Kast, Jr, 35, of Bridgewater, who was driving a 1980 Ford Bronco southward on Hanover Road near Silver City Road at about 6:14 pm December 9, lost control of the Ford as a large truck passed by, police said.

The Ford rolled onto its side, but Kast was not injured, police said. Newtown Hook and Ladder firefighters went to the accident to cleanup a minor fuel spill, police said.

Police issued Kast an infraction ticket for driving without a driverâs license. Police also verbally warned Kast for a traffic violation.

Jeep Vs Dodge

Motorist Robert Kopchik, 55, of 14 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 1991 Dodge Caravan northward on South Main Street about 1:40 pm December 15, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Marjorie Bliss, 23, of 42 Bears Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Bliss a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police issued Kopchik a written warning for failure to carry an automotive insurance card.

Snowplow Crash

Police report a three-vehicle accident at the hazardous intersection of South Main Street and Swamp Road about 7:30 am December 10.

Â Motorist Stanley Kokoszka, 38, of 12 Bayberry Drive, who was driving a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck with a snowplow attached, was pulling out a driveway on the west side of South Main Street in order to cross South Main Street and enter Swamp Road, when the snowplow struck the left rear side of a northbound 2000 Dodge Caravan minivan driven by Javier Izaquirro, 59, of East Haven, police said.

That impact pushed the Dodge into a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Paul Hufziger of 20 Marlin Road. The Chevrolet had been stopped at a stop sign at the end of Swamp Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Kokoszka an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way. Police verbally warned Izaquirro for failure to renew a vehicle registration.

Harassment Charges

In two separate arrest warrants served on December 14 and 17, police charged Gail Rothe, 48, of Southbury with a total of three counts of harassment in connection with incidents earlier this year, police said. Rothe was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

In your announcement, you mentioned that Newtown faces real pressures, including “traffic patterns that make everyday life more stressful.” One growing concern for many residents and business owners is the repeated traffic disruption on Main Street caused by large-scale protests and rallies at the flagpole — held without a unified permitting process. Given that Main Street is a state road with a history of serious traffic and pedestrian safety issues, how would you, as First Selectman, approach the impact of these gatherings on traffic flow, public safety, and local businesses? I ask this with sincere interest in understanding how your commitment to “thoughtful planning” and “unity of action” would apply to this very real and recurring issue.

Democrats To Run Walczak For First Selectman

I appreciate Ryan’s thoughtful and grounded perspective on the need for a consistent, transparent, and lawful permitting process for large public events in Newtown. His approach reflects common sense within the framework of the law, balancing public safety, free expression, and fiscal responsibility—exactly what we should expect from our elected officials. In contrast, I was struck by Bruce Walczak’s comment suggesting that informal and "extensive discussion" are the preferred solutions to complex public issues. While there is certainly value in dialogue, the idea that decision-making should replace the thoughtful legislative process is troubling—especially coming from someone running for First Selectman.

Says ‘No’ Vote Sidestepped Due Diligence

I am grateful to The Democratic Town committee. I can vouch for the careful consideration they took in selecting our candidates. I appreciate their confidence in my managing skills to address the many issue facing Newtown. Ill be conducting listening tours over the next few months to gain a deeper understanding of my Newtown neighbors concerns and will be ready to address then day one.

There has been a rash of dog attacks, at least three that I know about on the sidewalks in town. Owners of pets need to be more attentive and respectful of their neighbors. Aggressive dogs need to be watched carefully to protect all. This is a serious issue and should be addresses not swept under a rug.

We Need A First Selectman Who Cares

I attended the meeting, and the results were reached after extensive discussion. Thats why its important to attend these high profile meeting, you see the facts yourself, As Alex, in the following letter, said the solution is not always more rules and legislation. Speaking to each other often solves issue a lot quicker with more flexibility.
