Multiple Car Crash On Rt. 34

A three-car accident, involving multiple impacts and a driver extrication by emergency personnel, occurred on Route 34 between High Rock Road and Gray’s Plain Road about 8 am December 20.

Snow, slush, and ice covered the pavement at the time of the collisions.

Police said motorist Tonto P. Dutta, 23, of Orange, who was driving a 1992 Mazda Protégé westbound on Route 34, rounded a curve and lost control of the car, went into a spin and skidded into the eastbound lane and struck eastbound motorist Osvaldo A. Leal, 50, of Danbury, who was driving a 1989 Mazda 626.

The Mazda 626 then rolled over and hit some rocks, after which it was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Vladislav Kutuzov, 18, of Danbury, who was driving a 1987 Honda Accord, police said.

After the initial collision, the Mazda Protégé had continued spinning out of control, coming to rest some distance west of the initial impact.

Sandy Hook and Botsford firefighters extricated Leal from the overturned Madza 626.

The Mazda 626 carried a passenger, Serrathe Amaral Valderama, 33, of Danbury, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Leal, Valderama, and Dutta to Danbury Hospital, where they were all treated for injuries and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police issued Dutta a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.
