Hadassah Volunteers Send Toys Around The World
The Greater Newtown Area Chapter of Hadassah packed more than 400 stuffed animals for three organizations in Israel: an orphanage for girls, a home for children of dysfunctional families, and a soup kitchen in a poverty-stricken area of Israel. Also, stuffed animals were packed for a local resident who was portraying Santa Claus.
âWe laugh as we pack,â said Bernice Ullmann, of Newtown, a Hadassah member. âEight of us braved the bad weather to pack the stuffed animals and several handmade dolls made by 90-year-old Sylvia Frost. The weather was horrible so we packed quickly before the snow built up.â
The stuffed animals practically new, are slightly used, but are washed and restored with a bow, hat, or sweater, or battery where needed. Hundreds of these stuffed animals go around the world and to local charities throughout the year.
