Grade 8 Boys â
Newtown 79, Greenwich I 57 â After two pre-season tournaments and a non-league game, Newtown opened its league schedule with a dominating performance led by Kevin Troyâs 23 points. Bob Lapple was outstanding on both ends of the floor. Greg Larnerd and PJ Cochrane played fine overall games.
Greenwich II 56, Newtown 50 â A determined Greenwich team denied Newtown on its home court. Greg Rodden, Dylan Clark and Mike Maher combined for 22 points and played well on both ends of the court. Dan Smith played a fine game at the point.
Newtown 64, Darien 38 â A tremendous defensive effort by the entire team, enabled Newtown to get off to a 23-5 first period lead and never looked back. Mike Maher was outstanding, leading the team with 20 points. Dan Smith led the defensive effort forcing the defensive pressure all game and combined with Greg Larnerd to score 17 points. Dylan Clark led the team in rebounding and played a fine overall game.

Grade 6 Girls â
Newtown 38, Fairfield 37 â Trailing 20-14 at the half, the Lady Hawks came out fired up in the third quarter to outscore Fairfield, 11-4, enroute to the win. Kaitlin Marsden had a strong game popped in nine points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Kate Bowen and Sara Kelley each chipped in with seven points and grabbed six and 10 rebounds, respectively. Jennifer Daily and Susan Mason combined for nine points.
Junior Boys

Lakers 44, Knicks 40 (OT) â Matt Mascolo and Nick Saviano scored 12 points apiece as the Lakers nipped the Knicks in overtime. Mike Aurelia dished off seven assists, Kevin Walsh grabbed 10 rebounds and Dan DeLaVega made six steals. For the Knicks, Alex Magoulas canned 10 points as Ian Doerr, John Aminti and Matt Yakush (three-pointer) played well.
Huskies 60, Jazz 46 â Eric Dreher poured in 28 points to lead the Huskies past the Jazz. Jared Modzelewski had a nifty double-double with 12 points and 10 assists while Ryan Hudock had six points and eight assists. Zack Conger chipped in with four points and eight rebounds. For the Jazz, Brendan Martin and Jacob Wolf combined for 30 points while Andrew Meisel, Brendan Martin and Zack Brazo played well.
Huskies 40, Timberwolves 32 â Erik Dreher canned 12 points and Spencer Scott blocked three hots to lead the Huskies to the win. Mark Scheunemann and Nick Urso played well. For the T-Wolves, Dan Giorno had 18 points and eight blocks while Nick Rozsa and Ryan Wilson (10 rebounds) had strong performances.
Kings 46, Nitro 43 â David Manville popped in 14 points and Chris Salvatore added 12 to lift the Kings to the win. Rob OâDonnell dished off four assists and Adam Schankman made two steals. For the Nitro, Brian Reszoly had 18 points and Zach Varga had eight with seven assists. Kyle DiNicola pulled down nine rebounds.
Bullets 67, 76ers 38 â Connor Martin poured in 20 points and Kris Kling added 11 to lift the Bullets to the win. Kenton Lord grabbed 12 rebounds and Charlie Kerr made eight steals. For the Sixers, Kyle Wagner and Nick Garafulo combined for 22 points. Eddie White, AJ Ritchie and Tom Jackman played well.
Spurs 42, Sonics 24 â Kurtis Liska had 11 points and Jason Kostecki had eight points and 12 rebounds to lead the Spurs to the win. Tucker LaPak tossed in eight points. For the Sonics, Tyler Tarantino had 10 points and Will Mahony had 15 rebounds.
Yellow Submarines 56, Jazz 37 â Jimmy OâBrien canned 14 points as the Subs eased past the Jazz. Jonathan Zigman, Joel Minalgo and Jamie Goodwick all played well. For the Jazz, Brendan Martin popped in 12 points as Andrew Meisel, Alex Bowen and Mike McDonald had solid performances.
Bulletts 43, Rockets 21 â Kyle McNamara had 12 points and Kenton Lord grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Bullets to the win. Steve Oberstadt (nine assists) and Cody Cullens (eight steals) had solid performances. For the Rockets, Ryan Goodridge canned eight points and Colin Babbage made six steals. Ronald Swift and Mickey Fay played well.
Lakers 34, Spurs 33 â Matt Mascolo scored 14 points and Ryan Boucher added eight to lead the Lakers to the win. Robbie Blanc had eight assists while Chris Marks made 10 steals and Nick Saviano grabbed 10 rebounds. For the Spurs, Jason Kostecki had 14 points and Max Muraskiewicz played a solid game.
Wildcats 49, Rockets 17 â Jake DeVellis poured in 20 points and Ryan Golankiewicz chipped in with 10 to pace the Wildcats. Chris Basso and Brett LeBlanc played well on D. For the Rockets, Peter Wlasuk had eight points as Nick Ciarelli, Conor McManus and Sean Ryan had good performances.
Junior Girls

Blue Devils 25, Huskies 16 â Marina Virgalla scored eight points, Rachel Taback had three assists, and Caitlin Britton had three steals to lead the Blue Devils over the Huskies. Claire Ober grabbed four rebounds. Jen Spannedda and Kelley Sullivan led the Huskies with six points apiece. Bryony Langdon had four assists with Veronica Parsloe playing a great all around game.
Pacers 33, Lightning 31 â Jacklyn Petrasanta canned 16 points and Renata Villarreal chipped in with seven as the Pacers outgunned the Lightning. Sarah Peck added four points and six rebounds while Lauren Picerno dished off seven assists. Katie Power poured in 10 and Meaghan Trosan scored eight for the Lightning with Meagan Kelly handing out five assists.
Bulldogs 25, Nightmare 24 â Laura Newberry scored 12 points and Joanna Barry led the defense in the win over the Nightmare. Erin Fish was strong off the boards and Beenish Ansari had a solid floor game. Betsy Vendel led the Nightmare with eight points, Kendra OâConnor had three steals, and Chynna Smith grabbed six rebounds. Megan Sajovic had a fine all around game.
Nightmare 38, Rockets 25 â Betsy Vendel scored 16 points and Genna Scheuerell added six in the Nightmareâs win over the Rockets. Kendra OâConnor came up with eight assists while Tyler Brindley and Chynna Smith grabbed 4 rebounds each. Libby Feltch led the Rockets with seven points as Belle Hydock chipped in with six. Olivia Dillon and Rachel Marlin had great all around games.
Intermediate Girls

Shamrocks 23, Huskies 22 â Lisa Vendel canned 10 points and Audrea Sarna grabbed six boards to lead the Shamrocks to the win. Megan Gibbons had six points and a strong all-around performance. For the Huskies, Brittany Wiberg and Samantha Whitley dropped in six points apiece. Nicole Gindraux played well in defense.
Liberty 32, Comets 11 â Brady Eggleston popped in 10 points to lift the Liberty to the win. Katharine Scott, Jessica Buyers and Morgan Schick played well. For the Comets, Emma Kingsley had four points while Lila Kohrman-Glaser, Hannah DeFlumeri and Aria Brownell played well.
Huskies 23, Suns 13 â Brittany Wiberg scored 10 points and Ellen Ritzinger added six to lead the Huskies to the win. Nicole Gindraux and Jillian Jagoe played well. For the Suns, Hannah Basch-Gould popped in six points, Katie Pessin had five steals, and Tori Picerno had seven rebounds.
Intermediate Boys

Nets 28, Huskies 20 â Joe Fedak and Dan Greenwood combined for 14 points to lead the Nets to the win. Fedak also had eight rebounds. Mike Zaccaro and Kevin McCarthy played well.
Wildcats 40, Lakers 32 â Ben Miles canned 11 points and Andrew Golankiewicz brought down eight rebounds to lead the Wildcats to the win. Leo Spinelli and Max Brazo played well. For the Lakers, Shane Wurtz popped in 14 points as Patrick Svitek, John Wlasuk and Chris Winn had solid performances. Vince LaFrancesca drained a pair of long-range shots.
Nighthawks 26, Gators 20 â Oliver Powers and Kyle OâConnor had six points apiece as the Nighthawks slipped past the Gators. Eric Thornberg and Tom Capozziello played well.
Midget Girls

Hoopsters versus Celtics â Mary Hamoula, Jenna Poeltl, Natalie Landfair and Courtney Escoda played well for the Hoopsters while Claire Miles, Kristen DiGiordano, Laurel Speed and Stefanie Clavette powered the Celtics.
Midget Boys
Â
Dragons versus Vipers â Ivan Hutchison, Mason West, Thomas Stewart and Eric Fiore powered the Dragons while Jeffrey Grasso, Scott Runkle, Joe Davis and Mason Page anchored the Vipers.
76ers versus Nighthawks â Tyler Gibney and Max Lopez were strong on offense for the Sixers while Ryan Crowell and David Cartisano played well on D. For the âHawks, Will Fletcher, Connor Quinn, Kory Kling and Chris Deveney played well.
Bulldogs versus Lakers â Alex Strezlecki, Daniel Melb-Bethke and William Miller had good performances for the Bulldogs while Kyle Wilcox, Patrick Zingano, Michael Fitzsimmons and Ryan LeMay played well for the Lakers.
Raptors versus Lakers â Dan Gustafson, Sam Hill, Harrison Buzzi and Tim Eames played well to lead the Raptors. For the Lakers, Brandon Marks, KC Condon, Matt Shannon and Brendan Callory had strong games.
Orangemen versus Raptors â Kevin Phillips, Josh Barrett, Devin DiNicola and Matt Sharpe plaued well for the Orangemen while Gavin Scallon, Colin Cooper and Alex LaCroce played well for the Raptors.
Thundercats versus Cardinals â Robby Uhde, Evan Exler, and Stefan Dullinger led the âCats as Cameron McCleary, Ricky Kerins, Jimmy Russo and Ryan Coe powered the Cards.
Hurricanes versus Rockets â Michael Greenwood, Wyatt Deput, Matt Spencer and Charlie Prior played well for the âCanes as Steven Rahr, Justin Cherry, Charlie Feltch and Tom Bauer played well for the Rockets.
Cougars versus Knicks â Jack Kearns, David Tortora, Christian Mather and Patrick Sullivan had solid games for the Cougars as Christian Barrett and Peter Kerns played well for the Knicks.
Blue Devils versus Gators â Trey Trudell, Chad Magoulas, Sam Langdon and Reid Schmidt had great games to lead the Devils as Matt Bolinsky, Brennan Merrick, Kyle Harrington and Kyle Morrissey anchored the Gators with solid performances.
