Collision At Intersection

Newtown Police report Vincent Santucci, 26, of Brewster, N.Y., operating a 2015 Volkswagon Golf, was stopped at a stop sign on Jordan Hill Road facing northbound at 12:09 pm December 9. Christian Correa, 21, of Trumbull, operating a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro LT, was stopped at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Jordan Hill Road, waiting to turn left on Jordan Hill Road, facing westbound. Correa proceeded to turn left onto Jordan Hill Road, when Santucci turned left out of Jordan Hill Road onto Berkshire Road. The driver’s side front of Santucci’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of Correa’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Santucci was given a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Hit Wall And Mailbox

Newtown Police report Mariela Lunetta, 41, of Danbury, operating a 2011 Toyota RAV4, was traveling east on Castle Meadow Road at 12:43 pm December 10. Lunetta’s vehicle drifted off of the roadway to the right and made contact with an SNET utility pole. The vehicle then continued traveling east and made contact with a speed limit sign also located to the right of the roadway. Lunetta’s vehicle then crossed over the roadway, crossing over the opposing lane and made contact with a stone wall and row of hedges off of the roadway, located on the north side of Castle Meadow Road. Lunetta’s vehicle came to a rest on a grassy area in front of a home.

Lunetta reported she may have fallen asleep. Her vehicle was towed due to damage.

Lunetta complained of neck pain. EMS was summoned to the scene and she was transported to Danbury Hospital.

Lunetta was given an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Swerved To Avoid Deer

Newtown Police report Patricia Cordero, 46, of New Fairfield, operating a 2018 Nissan Altima 2.5, was negotiating a curve in the roadway while traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 11:53 pm December 10. A deer ran in front of Cordero from the right side of the roadway and off to the left side, causing Cordero to swerve her vehicle left to avoid hitting the deer. Cordero’s vehicle skidded across the southbound travel lane and the left side of the vehicle collided with the guardrail facing the south side of the road.

No injuries were reported.

Cordero was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Motorcycle Slipped In Cold

Newtown Police report William Goessinger, 51, of Bethel, operating a 2007 Harley FXST Custom, turned left onto the westbound lane of Church Hill Road from a driveway at 8:14 pm December 13. The pavement and the tires of the motorcycle were very cold and offered little grip. The tires slipped, causing Goessinger to lose control and be thrown off.

Goessinger was not wearing a helmet, causing him to suffer a head injury and he was transported by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital.

A nearby friend was able to move the motorcycle to a parking lot.

No enforcement action was taken.

Rear Ended

Newtown Police report Andre Centeio, 50, of Naugatuck, operating a 2017 Ford Transit T-250, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road behind a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Karen Craig, 61, of Newtown, at 5:22 pm December 14. Craig stopped due to traffic and the front end of Centeio’s vehicle struck rear driver’s side of Craig’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Centeio’s vehicle was towed from the scene by Modzelewski’s due to disabling damage.

Centeio was issued an infraction for following too closely resulting in an accident.

Church Hill Road

Newtown Police report Jennifer Kelly, 42, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Toyota Highlander, was traveling southbound on Glen Road at 6:49 pm December 14. George Logan, 52, of Ansonia, operating a 2008 Mercedes S550 4Matic, was traveling northbound on Washington Avenue. Logan turned left onto Church Hill Road, as Kelly turned right onto Church Hill Road, and the driver front of Kelly’s vehicle struck the passenger side of Logan’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was taken.

Crossed Center Line

Newtown Police report Jose Ananias, 59, of Bridgeport, operating a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, was traveling eastbound on Park Lane at 8:20 am December 15. Karen Waltz, 49, of Newtown, operating a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE, was traveling westbound on Park Lane.

Ananias crossed over into the opposite lane as it was approaching Waltz. The driver’s side of Ananias’ vehicle made contact with the driver’s side of Waltz’s vehicle, causing damage to both.

No injuries were reported.

Ananias was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating a motor vehicle while under suspension and failure to drive on the right.

Flipped After Striking Wall

Newtown Police report John Reardon, 23, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited S, was traveling southbound on Taunton Hill Road at 10:20 pm December 15. Reardon’s vehicle went off of the left side of the roadway and the driver’s side front struck a rock wall, causing the vehicle to flip onto its roof. The front of the vehicle then struck a tree and came to a stop.

Reardon said he had no injuries but was sent to Danbury Hospital for evaluation due to the severity of the accident. Reardon’s vehicle was towed by Modzelewski’s due to disabling damage.

Reardon was given a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Motorist Injured

Newtown Police report Alyse Adamcheck, 19, of Newtown, operating a 2010 Ford Escape XLT, was traveling northbound on South Main Street behind a 2014 Honda Civic LX operated by Tara McPadden, 59, of Woodbury, at 12:46 pm December 16. McPadden began slowing for traffic, and the front end of Adamcheck’s vehicle struck the rear end of McPadden’s vehicle. McPadden’s vehicle was pushed forward to the right, hitting into a 2016 Volvo XC90 T6 operated by Ilidio Teixeira, 37, of Shelton. McPadden’s vehicle continued turning off to the right, into a ditch where it struck a tree before coming to rest.

McPadden was transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. McPadden’s vehicle was towed by Modzeloweski’s Towing.

No enforcement was mentioned in the report.

Started Moving Too Soon

Newtown Police report Fatime Dervishaj, 36, of Shelton, operating a 2017 Toyota Rav4 LE, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way and stopped at the the traffic light in the right turn lane, preparing to turn right onto Berkshire Road, at 5:13 pm December 16. Dervishaj was stopped behind a 2012 Honda Accord SE operated by Andrew Klimas, 59, of Seymour, operating a 2012 Honda Accord SE.

Dervishaj began moving before Klimas and struck the rear of his vehicle with the front of her vehicle.

Dervishaj was issued a verbal warning for unsafe movement of a stopped vehicle and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Backed Into Vehicle

Newtown Police report Sarah Steiner, 30, of Newtown, operating a 2006 Mercury Milan Premier, was in a parking spot in the Walgreens parking lot, facing the store, at 3:14 pm December 18. Keegan Simons, 16, of Monroe, operating a 2020 Hyundai Tucson Limited, was traveling through the parking lot, passing behind where Steiner’s vehicle was parked. Steiner backed up, striking Simons’ vehicle rear to side. Minor damage was done to both vehicles.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement was taken due to the collision being on private property.

Retaining Wall, Mailbox, Pole Hit

Newtown Police report Rhonda Ravenhorst, 61, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2004 Subaru Forester, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 6:25 pm December 19. Ravenhorst failed to maintain her vehicle in the proper lane and veered to the right, striking a retaining wall. Ravenhorst’s vehicle overturned, striking the mailbox on the same property and then striking a utility pole before coming to a stop.

Newtown EMS responded and evaluated Ravenhorst, but no injuries were reported.

Ravenhorst was given a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
